Business leader and founding school head with 25 years’ experience in the fun, fast-paced world of education, aspires to progress the ethics of care via curriculum, pilgriming projects

and creating inclusive opportunities for all styles of learners, teachers and the community.

“When I chose Mrs. Schainost as the Middle School Head, I did so based on her exceptional creative tendencies. Her thinking processes were so different from mine that she balanced my very analytical, left-brain approach. She understood the challenges that face the middle-school-age child and had a passion for creating an environment that affirmed every student. Her loyalty to The Independent School mission and her dedication to the students created a Middle School that was truly ‘gentle, kind, and loving’ to all.” (Norton, 2011, p. 188-189)

—Karen Norton (2011), Founding Head of School of The Independent School in her book,
A School Like No Other. Kansas: KKN Publishing.
