What is very interesting are the studies that Adecco staffing USA did in order to illustrate the recent growth of how job seekers search for jobs using social media and how recruitment is done through social media. Adecco Staffing surveyed 17,272 candidates and 1501 recruiters from 24 countries. According to Adecco Global Study done in June 2014, social media will become the “new job marketplace”.  Within their study (p. 5 & 8), they collectively state in 2013, 53% of their staffing has come from social media, and it is anticipated that percentage will grow in 2014.  This study also suggest that business will mostly use social media to judge a prospective employees character outside of the business world.

Another research dated Oct. 2015, from ABC News, Bureau of Labor Statistics, shows the statistical data of job search website, candidate research, time allocation of job hunting, LinkedIn statistic, and top rated job search sites.  With over 18 million online job posting annually, it seems almost impossible to believe that an HR recruiter will not pre-screen their applicants before called.  Between HR recruiters glancing through electric resumes along with their applications, there’s approximately 90% of recruiters preforming a google search on those candidates.  Imagine, once an applicant has applied, approximately 85% of HR recruiters run a search through social networking sites like LinkedIn to view the applicants brand.  To boot, 35% of potential candidates that have applied are disregarded due their social media brand.

This is a glimpse of what potential job seekers must be aware of, the upsurge use of social media for recruitment. Social media is not just an ordinary place to discuss what’s on ones persons mind.  Social media has become a place of marketing, not only do business use social media to market their brand to future clients or customers but now it is utilized as a recruitment process.
