Since social media is part of everyone’s daily lives how does social media influence the job seekers, and how recruiters are using social media to influence their decision for hire. Here is where the problem lies; every so often society tends to use their social media as a venting mechanism in regards to their relationships, home, experiences and even their employment status.  The first thing that appears, once you log into your Facebook is  and that is where people tend to forget that once a picture, tweet, or simple post has been published, it forever becomes part of the archives of the world wide web. While many believe what they do and say on their social media will not affect their chances at future employment or provide grounds for termination, the reality is quite the opposite.  Thus, be vigilant on what you do, or say out in the digital world.

The following clip, which I found interesting was from a local news station in Northern Nevada, on March 2015 in regards to social media.  This clip demonstrates the importance of how folks conduct themselves on their social media, and can possibly affect their occupation. According to the Nolo website, Law for All, it is becoming more common for HR recruiters to check applicant’s background through their social media page.  The legal topics of em ployment law, “Can potential employers check your Facebook page?” by Lisa Guerin, explains what current employers are doing in today’s world as part of their recruiting process.  In her writing she states employers are doing extensive background checks through applicant’s social media, and even have refused to hire a potential employee due to their social media status.  This can be alarming to know, if a possible candidate that has all of the qualifications for a specific trade, can be declined in hiring, due to the lack of censorship of their social media page.

Since everything is becoming more digital, therefore your social media profile becomes your brand.  As a result, job seekers must develop a social media brand  that will make them more appealing to HR recruiters.  Remember when applying for a position, it is likely that a recruiter is going to do a background check, along with looking at the resume.  Businesses want an individual that can conduct themselves in a professional manner within the company, and outside the company.  Just like a resume, where job skills are being marketed to an impending open position, your social media profile also is marketed as a framework of your personal life.
