Having the opportunity to work on such an interesting research topic has truly been a privilege. I enjoyed reading up on all the information out there on the topic, and believe me, there's a lot of it. As a parent I find the issue of keeping children safe online to be a really important one because we are moving forward into the electronic and digital communication realm, not backward. We are currently so immersed in social media and there are no signs of stopping. The forecast is that social media will only become a more predominant and necessary communication tool for adults and children alike.

I feel it is truly important for parents, educators, and everybody involved in a child's life to try their best to teach their children and themselves about the potential dangers that face them when using social media. The majority of these dangers come from the fact that the Internet affords everyone anonymity. We have seen too many tragedies strike young children because of cyber bullying and advances from sexual predators online. How many kindnappings and suicides must we witness before there are more proactive measures taken to stop this?

While there are many programs and educational websites in existence, it is still up to the people directly connected to a child to make sure that they are participating in their child's social life on a daily basis. Even though I always knew that these dangers are a problem, this research paper has really opened my eyes to just how serious it is and just how active I will have to be in my child's life.

I truly enjoyed working with my thesis statement and with the Senior Capstone class. I hope my work will educate all of the people viewing this paper on the importance of educating yourselves and your children or your future children about the dangers and threats that can be encountered through use of social media and social networking sites.
