Course Description:

Culture is expressed through individual personalities, the product of both genetic unfolding and interaction with others in a specific cultural context. While a means of communication, language is also a way of organization perception and understanding. In this course students study the interaction between broad genotypes, individual personality, communication and culture.

Course Reflection:

This course was complex in nature due to the content it explores. The textbook and power point presentations created by the professor helped make sense of the course work. I found that I took the most out of the Discussion Board posts and have a better understanding of how personalities in different cultures are fostered due to the diversity of students in my section.

Course Assignments:

  • As Nature Made Him: Book Report  explores the book written about the tragic life of Bruce Reimer and the unethical doctor that forced him to live as a girl during his formative years. In the book, “As Nature Made Him: The Boy Who Was Raised As A Girl”, Ron and Janet Reimer faced the biggest decision of their lives after a routine circumcision for their twin sons went horribly wrong. Unfortunately, shortly after the release of this book, unable to cope, Bruce Reimer took his life.
