Abstract

In this project, I will examine many of the concepts related to urban life we have discussed in our online learning environment through the lens of one neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York.

After a brief review of Prospect Heights, Brooklyn's historical evolution, I will examine its changing demographic makeup and economic fortunes from the post-World War II era through the most recent decennial census, and also consider broadly a mega-project located within its borders—the Atlantic Yards project—from the standpoint of community activism and local residents' reactions.
